Jiten Hazarika was born in Assam in 1936, where his artistic inclination became visible early in life. After graduating in Civil Engineering in 1963, he was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers in the Indian Army in 1964. Rising to the rank of Colonel, he retired prematurely in 1990 to dedicate himself fully to painting. His artworks are deeply influenced by rural Assam, philosophy, and Sanskrit literature. His works have been studied at doctoral levels, and he has served as a Resource Person on art for several universities. He continues to live and paint in Noida.
Artistic Style
Jiten’s paintings fall within the Figurative Abstract genre, blending realism and abstraction uniquely. His works focus on rhythm, vibrant color harmonies, and imaginative spatial arrangements. He creates visual poetry, speaking in blank verses through color and form. Guided by sincerity and refined technique, he believes in art for art’s sake, reflecting a quiet yet profound dialogue between life, memory, and instinct.
